One of our longest-standing feature requests is here! Sensor owners can now see remaining cartridge life estimate and Wi-Fi signal strength in Particle Sense and the portal. For now, the telemetry reported doesn’t need an aggressive reporting interval, so we’ve launching at a 30 minute interval and currently storing only the most recent report. We’ll look on expanding historical logging in the future if there’s interest.
First up: Estimated Cartridge Life! This has been one of the longest-standing requests related to sensor uptime. At launch, the Estimated lifetime is shown in Particle Sense and via the Portal. The reason why it’s an estimate is that there is not a sensor monitoring the exact cartridge usage. The estimate requires that the cartridge usage be properly reset by the user upon cartridge swap and is tracked by the sensor using a best estimate. Both Particle Sense and the Portal will show a recommendation when the cartridge should be changed soon (below 15% lifespan).
We’re also launching sensor Wi-Fi connection strength information! This will help investigate flaky Wi-Fi connections without having to be nearby using bluetooth; for the most up-to-date connection status, we still recommend using bluetooth connection to the sensor.
