The Pollen Wise Sensor Network FAQ

This is a collection of some of the most frequently asked questions we receive about the Pollen Wise App.

Q: How does Pollen Wise get pollen data for my location?

A: Pollen Wise delivers real-time pollen counts near you using Pollen Sense grid and forecasting models that combine measurements from the automated sensor network with environmental factors like weather for your location. You will see daily and, for subscribers where available, hourly outlooks on a Misery Index scale.

Q: Why doesn’t the app show data for my area?

A: Forecast coverage depends on where you are. If Pollen Wise does not yet have grid forecast data for your location, the app will tell you that data is unavailable and gives you a way to request sensor coverage in your area. We continue to expand the sensor network and forecasting coverage over time.

Q: Why do Pollen Wise numbers differ from other apps or websites?

A: Pollen Wise is the consumer app for real-time pollen counts built from Pollen Sense’s automated sensor network and models. Many other platforms rely on manual pollen counts taken once per day or on older regional estimates. Because Pollen Wise uses continuously collected sensor data and updated forecasting models, the numbers you see may not match other sources—and that is expected.

Q: What is a Pollen Sense Automated Sensor?

A: Pollen Sense Automated Particulate Sensors are the result of more than six years of research and development. The hardware works with machine learning and machine vision models to identify airborne particulates collected during automated sampling. Those measurements feed the forecasting models that power Pollen Wise.

Q: How can I get a sensor closer to my community?

A: Most of our sensors are hosted by allergists, municipalities, hospitals, school districts, universities, researchers, and others who want better local data for their communities. The best way to get a sensor in your area is to contact your local allergist and let them know about Pollen Sense. If they are interested, direct them to our website or have them request a quote.

Another option is to contact local government leaders or a school district, or work with friends and family who also want better local data. For current pricing and hosting options, request a quote—we do not publish a public pricing page.

We recognize our sensor is not cheap. If cost is prohibitive, we encourage you to work with others in your community, including friends and family who are allergy sufferers, to bring one closer to you. Our sales team is always looking for great hosts, and we welcome your help getting a sensor nearer to you.
